Arianna Fisher, a Missouri graduate student-athlete and the program record holder in the indoor and outdoor triple jump along with being an NCAA Division 1 All-American, joins DyeStat editor Erik Boal to discuss making her U.S. national team debut Aug. 21 at the NACAC Championships in the Bahamas. Fisher, 21, finished fourth June 25 with a lifetime-best 44-8.75 (13.63m) at the USATF Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore., and will represent the U.S. along with American record holder Keturah Orji at the fourth edition of the NACAC meet, trying to produce two triple jump podium finishes for the country for the first time, in addition to the first gold medal in the event. She explains her decision to wear U.S. jacket on New Year's Day in order to manifest making her first national team this summer and how it has helped hold her accountable throughout training and competition. Fisher reflects how significant her seventh-place finish was last year at the U.S. Olympic Trials and the confidence she gained from competing against professional athletes like Orji and reigning World Athletics Championships bronze medalist Tori Franklin. She examines her success during the indoor season and producing a personal-best 44-7 (13.59m) in February at the Tyson Invitational in Arkansas, along with securing All-America honors by placing seventh in March at the Division 1 final with a 44-4.25 (13.52m) effort. Fisher analyzes how she rebounded from an 11th-place finish at the NCAA Outdoor Championships to achieve her performance at the USATF Championships and what the reality was like when she learned she was selected for the NACAC team and received the Team USA suitcase with all her gear for the first time. She expresses gratitude for Missouri jumps coach Iliyan Chamov and his work with her the past two months, in addition to his dedication to travel from the European Championships in Germany to coach Fisher in the Bahamas, as Missouri will also be represented by Claudina Diaz and Roberto Vilches competing for Mexico in the women's high jump and men's high jump, as well as Sophia Rivera, who is entered in the women's javelin throw and discus throw for Puerto Rico. Fisher also shares her motivation to produce a 14-meter jump, or 45-11.25, along with speaking about her upcoming Masters program in education and her desire to become a kindergarten teacher after her eligibility at Missouri concludes following indoor and outdoor competition next year.
